N-acyl-alpha amino acids are compounds containing an alpha amino acid which bears an acyl group at its terminal nitrogen atom. Propionylglycine is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Propionylglycine is a potentially toxic compound.
